Unique Local Spotlight
The Cherokee Ranch and Castle
This quarter's very "unique" venue is The Cherokee Ranch and Castle in Sedalia. Many locals do not know that we have a beautiful Scottish-style castle in our own backyard. Precious works of art and furnishings from around the world, adorn this exquisite castle set high on a hilltop with breathtaking views of the Front Range.
Tweet Kimball was the last person to reside on "Cherokee Ranch". Many famous people have been guests at the castle. The prize-winning Santa Gertrudis cattle, which Tweet introduced to the ranch in the 1950's, still graze on the ranch's 3200 acres. Before Tweet died, she sold the Cherokee Ranch to Douglas County and now it is a protected wildlife conservatory and cultural icon of the region for all to enjoy.
The castle hosts a variety of events. Concerts are held throughout the year. Afternoon teas and castle tours are also available. The castle may be rented for a very memorable wedding, party or corporate event. Many wedding guests have commented on the the "uniqueness" of the event. While photographs were being taken, the guests were enjoying a tour of the castle by one of the docents. A reception can also be held in the Castle with musical accompaniments.
